Intent on immersing viewers in surreal spaces, video artist Ian Ross uses a mix of 3D motion graphics, original and found footage to craft multi-layered, music-reactive, geometrically patterned visuals. A fixture in the Pacific Northwest techno underground for both his live visuals and music videos, his video work has been featured internationally at exhibitions and showcases for Mutek Festival [Montréal], DAT Conference [Missoula], Rencontres Internationales [Paris / Berlin], and many more. This project is a collaboration with audio artist Constantine Katsiris wherein their combined forces create a maelstrom where sound and light react to create a turbulent voyage in space.

"Eye of the Storm" is an integrated audio / video piece by Vancouver-based artists Ian Ross and Constantine Katsiris. Inspired by avant-garde cinema, this work was initially conceived for presentation as a live performance in a theatre context in order to achieve the necessary visceral and synesthetic effects that can be experienced through surround sound coupled with large projections. The sound palette for this work incorporates raw data, digital sound synthesis, and shortwave radio frequencies, while the video component consists of audio-reactive animations that were layered and mixed live.
