With the help of two Kiev policemen, Hendricks managed to track down a man whose right ear had been removed and who had kept it. After difficult negotiations Oleg sold the ear to Hendricks, who had it turned into a synthetic diamond which was then placed in a gold ear stud. Then Oleg found time for a photo-shoot during which his image was captured with the diamond stud in his remaining right earlobe.

NEWSPAPER, 1994
EYE, 2001
Rotary press
22.44 x 15.75 inch / 57 x 40 cm

Technical resources are used to record the movements of the eye as it looks at objects, to digitise them and then to print them out. NEWSPAPER and EYE are the two most comprehensive projects within this group of works. It is composed of two newspapers that have already been read: one completely read Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and an issue of EYE, the weekly culture supplement with the San José Mercury News. Both these newspapers were produced – together with their regular issues – using rotary printing at the relevant printers.

EYE was published by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Kindly supported by San José Mercury News.
